Video: Reading Comprehension Strategies: Monitor & Clarify: This video shows students using self monitoring strategies when reading to clarify words/ideas they do not understand when reading.
Instruction: This video could be shown to teach students how to self monitor when they are reading while using the Comprehension Monitoring Strategy Guide. The video shows students using pictures, reading ahead, and re-reading to help them make sure what they are reading make sense to them. These same strategies can be used when attempting to monitor reading through fixing false statements as the student reads. Student Engagement: The student is engaged because he/she is expected to monitor their own reading independently. In the video you can tell the students have been taught and have had this strategy modeled to them prior to doing so because it is done effectively and properly. Assessment: A student assessment of this strategy could be done through a running record along with a comprehension quiz. It also could by giving the students a worksheet of false corrective statements from the passage to correct and turn in.y Video: Interactive Read Aloud: This video shows a teacher doing an interactive read aloud using the strategy of questioning and inferring. The teacher focuses on figuring out words that the students don't know while reading. The teacher and students write down what they think the word means and how they figured out what the word was.

She also has the students share their ideas with a neighbor. This strategy could also be used when completing the CM Strategy Guide at any grade level. Assessment: The teacher asks students questions and listens to students as they share with one another to make sure they comprehend the concepts being taught. |
